Puppies love to chase and be chased. If you go towards him as he is returning he will often turn and playfully run away. So you could move away a step or two as he returns. Try Attaching a 6 foot length cord to his collar. When he comes, crouch and gently place your hand under his chin to reinforce the holding of the object and don’t forget to praise him. Now take the cord and guide him to the heel position. Repeat this until it becomes a natural for the dog to fetch, hold , and take a heel and sit position.
